8 Pittsburgh things that happened since the Cubs last won the World Series
These Pittsburgh events put the Cubs’ 108-year drought into context.

A view of Sixth Ave., Downtown Pittsburgh 1908.
The period between Cubs’ World Series wins is unfathomably long.
108 years.
We looked around the Steel City to put that length of time into context.
1908 — Cubs win the World Series. (Also: Theodore Roosevelt is president! Milk costs 7 cents a quart! U.S. Steel is only 7 years old!)
1909 — The Pittsburgh Pirates win the 1909 World Series. (And then the 1925 series, too.)
1911 — Pittsburgh got its H back from the feds who tried to standardize the city’s name as Pittsburg.
1915 — The Pitt Panthers football team wins its first national championship (and then again the next year and in 1918).
1916 — The William Penn Hotel opens.
1920 — The first commercial radio signal is transmitted from KDKA (and continues today).
1926 — Workers break ground on Pitt’s Cathedral of Learning.
1933 — Primanti Brothers opens.
1935 — The Monongahela Incline gets electricity.
