If it snows this weekend, you’ll be able to track Pittsburgh and PennDOT’s plows on local roads in real time.
Plows operated by employees of Pittsburgh’s Public Works department can be tracked here. About 120 vehicles are equipped with trackers, per Public Works’ website.
For the first time, all of PennDOT’s 2,200-plus trucks are equipped with Automated Vehicle Location technology. Their movements can be tracked using this map.
The state transportation department’s AVL program began in 2014 with 119 trucks and expanded last year to more than 700.

As of Thursday morning, AccuWeather.com predicted a 70 percent chance of up to one inch of snowfall in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
It’s no snowstorm of 2010, but it’s a start for snow lovers.
Check the Pittsburgh government’s snow page for more info.
