We knew it was coming, but UberEATS is officially here.

The food delivery service launches today with roughly 100 Pittsburgh restaurants and the same “speed, convenience and reliability” that’s expected of Uber, said Casey Verkamp, UberEATS general manager for Pittsburgh.

UberEATS is already in more than 80 cities around the world, Verkamp said during a media briefing Wednesday. Last week, the delivery service launched in Boston and Montreal, and this week, it’s Mumbai and Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is known for its food and tech scenes, and UberEATS is the delivery service “to match,” Verkamp said.

Here’s what you need to know.

UberEATS: 101

  • You can order in the UberEATS app (iOS, Google Play) or on the UberEATs website.
  • The available restaurants vary based on a delivery zone set by Uber that changes due to factors like location, weather and demand, Verkamp said.
Here’s the general map of where the app works:

  • UberEATS lets you search restaurants by different categories such as price or type of food. But be warned — Uber has professional photos taken of the food, so it won’t be easy to look away.
  • Sure you can order and get your food right away; the average time between placing an order to delivery is 35 minutes. But you can also schedule orders between an hour in advance and as far as a week out. Hello, lunch after that dreaded work meeting or pre-scheduled birthday treats.
  • The app is linked to your Uber app and that means two things. First, you don’t have to re-enter your payment information. Second, when you hop in an Uber, the app will ask if you want to order food so it can arrive right after you. Post-bar pizza has never been so easy.
  • Kinda like surge pricing to ride in an Uber, there can sometimes be an extra fee for “busy areas” that the company explains as a way to make sure you get your food when you want it.
  • Restaurants can communicate directly with app users, so if there’s a question about your order, you’ll know.
  • Track your order in real time so you can be ready the moment. it. arrives.

Where you can order

Uber wouldn’t release a full list of restaurants, but said there are roughly 100 restaurants to start and more will be added weekly. Restaurants participating with the app can hang stickers in their windows, so keep an eye on your favorite spots.
