PHOTOS: Three Rivers Arts Festival kicks off 10 days of art, music and food in Pittsburgh
… but is it going to rain?

It’s back! And, no, we’re not talking about the rainy forecast.
The Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival kicked off at noon Friday. Head to the main entrance near Commonwealth Place and Liberty Ave., as the 10-day, free festival opens at noon daily. Check out its schedule of events here.
We got a sneak peak during a media tour and hung around as Pittsburghers enjoyed the first few hours of the 58th annual event on Friday.

Celebrate arts fest by eating a funnel cake, gyro or sipping an ultra-sweet lemonade.

Look familiar? That’s because you’ve probably already seen the Umbrella Sky Project from Agueda, Portugal in your Instagram feed already. It was inspired by Mary Poppins, but the festival brought it here because of its rainy reputation. The installation has been to more than 10 cities, worldwide.

Local band Delicious Pastries kicked off music at the main stage during Friday’s lunch hour. Here’s the line-up of music for the week, including featured artists Rebirth Brass Band, Hippo Campus, Las Cafeterias and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Pittsburgh Pottery features handmade art for your favorite yinzer.

… and another local artist, Three Rivers Clay Works, features pottery tiki mugs made from textures pulled from Downtown landmarks using clay slabs.

Artist Shilo Shiv Suleman peeks out from inside the Tidal tent near the Fort Duquesne footbridge in Point State Park. The interactive installation features fiberglass clouds, hundreds of LED lights and water that reacts to the flow of the river, per the festival.

If you visit after dark, be sure to look up. The Aerial dance company Blue Lapis Light will perform an original piece, choreographed for the Fifth Avenue Place facade Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m. Check out one of their past performances in Austin:
