This Moby Dick-inspired farm-and-fisher-to-table concept located along the Boulevard of the Allies at Grant Street is now serving brunch and dinner in a soft open phase this week. The space is the brainchild of Chef Dennis Marron (formerly of The Commoner at Hotel Monaco), which he describes a “well-rounded” restaurant versatile enough to host everything from lunch to an anniversary date to a night with friends.
Ki Ramen, Lawrenceville
After several months of hosting pop-ups around town, Ki Ramen is now open in Lawrenceville. It promises the freshest housemade noodles and broths.
Ineffable Ca Phe, Lawrenceville
This Lawrenceville motorcycle shop-turned-coffee shop unites the vibes of an American coffeehouse with an authentic Vietnamese café. It’s open and serving up drool-worthy dishes like this one:
11th Hour Brewing Co., Lawrenceville
Alert for craft beer fans: 11th Hour Brewing Co. in Lawrenceville is open. In the works since 2013, this brewery is housed in a 145-year-old brick building along Charlotte Street. Expect a beer rotation of IPA, pale ale, oatmeal stout and brown ale.
Bar Frenchman, East Liberty
The vision for the new Bar Frenchman: “Rich comfort food,” the chef told Good FoodPittsburgh. “I want people to feel like they are in their French Grandma’s kitchen,” he said.
Pub Chip Shop, food truck
The mobile unit of the South Side Pub Chip Shop is now on the road, bringing pub bites to a location near you.
Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Shadyside
This new frozen yogurt spot is keeping summer going with sweet treats at the first Menchie’s franchise in Pittsburgh.

Acorn on Walnut, Shadyside
Opening Sept. 6, this new spot aims to bring American fare, described as “refined without pretense,” to Walnut Street.
“We want our guests to feel as though they can come to us for comfort food — food that is familiar and welcoming — while also inviting those with a more adventurous palate to try some pretty inventive preparations we’ve been developing,” chef Scott Walton said in a news release.
Honeygrow, East Liberty
The chain known for made-to-order stir-fry, salads, juices and a honeybar is opening its first location in Pittsburgh on Sept. 8. Honeygrow is “thrilled to be opening our first location in the Steel City,” company CEO Justin Rosenberg said in a news release.

Thin Man Sandwich Shop, Strip District
After five years serving up creative sandwiches in the Strip District, Thin Man Sandwich Shop will close Sept. 17, Pittsburgh Magazine reported.
The Market Square location of this hot dog joint is now closed, the Post-Gazette reported. The restaurant’s Lawrenceville location, along with it food truck, remain open.
Red Oak Cafe, Oakland
The long-time Oakland cafe will be replaced with a Virginia-based restaurant called Roots Natural Kitchen, per the Business Times. An opening date has not been announced.
Block 292, Mt. Lebanon
The butcher-market-cafe concept posted a farewell Facebook message in early August. But, they wrote, it’s goodbye for now but “not forever.” “We still live in the neighborhood, and we will begin thinking about the next phase in the life of 292 Beverly Rd almost immediately.” Stay tuned.
