Maybe you’re moving. Or maybe you’re just really excited for spring cleaning. Or maybe this weather has you staying inside more, looking around your apartment and wondering, why do I have all this stuff?
At some point, it will be time to clean out closets and drawers, meaning you can pass along that lamp or old cell phone to someone who needs it. Pass along bulk donations to Goodwill of Southwestern Pa., Red White & Blue, Salvation Army’s Western Pa. Division and Society of St. Vincent De Paul, or use this list for more specific donations.
When it comes to donating clothes, keep quality in mind. Clothes should be clean and free of rips and stains, said Molly Patterson, who oversees the South Hills Interfaith Movement Community Closet. “If you wouldn’t wear it, don’t assume that other people would.”
When donating blankets and sheets, it’s a good idea to attach a note with their size, Patterson added.
Worth noting: It’s always a good idea to double check an organization’s hours and donation guidelines before loading up the car. In some cases, pick-up is an option, too. Notice a donation spot that’s missing? Let us know.
