The overarching message from the Pittsburgh Women’s March: “Grab ’em by the midterms.”
The phrase was a common refrain among signs in the crowd of 30,000 at Sunday’s 2018 Women’s March, titled “Power to the Polls.” Marchers packed Grant Street in front of the City-County Building for a rally, then streamed through Downtown along Fifth Avenue to Market Square chanting “This is what democracy looks like.”
The Pittsburgh chapter of The Women’s March on Washington and Indivisible Pittsburgh, along with several other groups, organized the march and rally with a focus on voter registration and voting.

The race between Rick Saccone and Conor Lamb, vying for U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy’s seat in a March 13 special election, took center stage, with many carrying Lamb signs and wearing stickers supporting the Democratic candidate.
Other signs referenced the #MeToo movement, intersectional feminism, reproductive rights, the wage gap, DACA and President Donald Trump’s actions. And of course, there were some very Pittsburgh signs, too. Here’s a round-up of the best signs we spotted in the crowd.
