Update, Feb 20: Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry Sweet Sixteen: Fire Hall rematch
It’s no secret that Pittsburghers love fish fry season and the limited-time-only meals of fried fish and Pittsburgh comfort food worth the long lines and crammed restaurants, fire halls and church basements.
Last year, after nearly 60,000 votes, a few light-hearted rivalries and a lot of reader feedback on the best fried fish and tastiest sides, readers crowned St. Alphonsus in Wexford.
But! There are so many delicious fish fry offerings in the Pittsburgh area, we’re ISO a new champion this year. Instead of finding the best fish in the City, East, North and Southwest, we’re pitting establishment against each other. Fire halls will face off against fire halls, churches vs. churches, and restaurants will take on restaurants. The ultimate fish fry gets fame, bragging rights and a trophy. And no, St. Alphonsus, our reigning champion, cannot win again.
