Update, 10 a.m. Feb. 19: Voting for this round has closed.

We asked and you didn’t disappoint — nearly 250 nominations rolled in for this year’s Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry bracket.

Competition will be tough. There are multiple repeats from last year’s bracket, including three of the Final Four — Holy Angels, St. Joan of Arc and Corpus Christi. Rounding out that group was St. Alphonsus, last year’s champ, which we said couldn’t compete this year. (Here’s how they responded to that, btw.)

But there are also some newcomers with strong followings and multiple nominations. We seeded competitors based on number of nominations and nominators’ zeal in describing the fish fry. But seeding isn’t the end-all-be-all. Last year’s winner was seeded 7th, so it’s really all about the votes.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Top left quadrant: Fire Halls and Social Clubs. Fire halls will face fire halls and likewise with the social clubs, until the Elite Eight, when the top in each category will face off for a spot in the Final Four.
  • Bottom left quadrant: Eateries. This quadrant is for cafes, bars, restaurants and so on.
  • Top right quadrant: Churches West.
  • Bottom right quadrant: Churches East.

Churches dominated the nominations, so we split them into two groups, drawing a dividing line just west of Downtown. So Church of the Epiphany (Downtown) and St. Mary of the Mount (Mount Washington) are in the east category, while St. Teresa of Avila (Ross) and St. Joan of Arc (South Park) are on the western side.
