Update, June 16: Vote now for the 2018 Ultimate Pittsburgh Frozen Treat champion

It’s a good thing people don’t bet on frozen treats brackets the way they bet on real March Madness brackets.

Because if they did, we bet a lot of people would be losing some $$$. In the Elite Eight round, it was upset after upset, and we’ll give you the rundown on each one.

But first, here’s how to ensure your favorites make it into the championship round of the Ultimate Pittsburgh Frozen Treat bracket, presented by The Philadelphia Contributionship: Cast your ballot by Friday, June 15 at 10 a.m.

With more than 1,500 votes cast for the Elite Eight competition, here’s what happened as these sweet spots angled for a place in the Final Four.

The hand-dipped ice cream victor

In the battle for the hand-dipped ice cream crown, Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream trounced Klavon’s Ice Cream Parlor with 58 percent of the votes. In the previous round, Klavon’s — known for its old timey soda fountain vibes — had won in a landslide.

King of the icy treats

The closest match-up in this round came in the race between Gus & Yia Yia’s and The Milkshake Factory. In the end, the North Side shaved ice cart won with just five more votes than the milkshake mavens.

The soft serve medalist

In the soft serve category, Al’s Cone Zone swept the competition — Page Dairy Mart — with 61 percent of the vote total. Again, Page Dairy Mart, the nostalgia-inducing street-side shop, had been the favorite going into this race. In the Sweet Sixteen round, it vanquished its competition with 82 percent of the vote.

The champ of the novelties category

Both The Golden Nugget at Kennywood and Sarris Candies Ice Cream Parlour earned high numbers in the first two rounds, so it’s no surprise this was a close one. Sarris ended up taking home the title in this round with 55 percent of the vote total.

Rock the vote

What will happen next? Frankly, we have no idea because almost all of our predictions were wrong. Now’s the time to show some more love to the shops in the Final Four, and vote your faves into the championship.

Vote below or here by 10 a.m. Friday, June 15.
