Update, June 27: Introducing the Ultimate Pittsburgh Frozen Treat: Al’s Cone Zone
Updated with information about pop-up celebration
Four frozen treat shops went head-to-head this week battling for a spot in the championship round of the Ultimate Pittsburgh Frozen Treat bracket, presented by The Philadelphia Contributionship.
But only two sweet shops could make it to the final round, which will pit Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream against Al’s Cone Zone.
Handel’s faced the iconic shaved ice cart Gus & Yia Yia’s, eking out a victory with 51 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, Al’s Cone Zone crushed the competition, Sarris Candies Ice Cream Parlour, with 89 percent of the vote.
In the final round, can Al’s ardent fans score a victory? Or will Handel’s devotees get the last word?
With thousands of votes cast in the Final Four, it’s anyone’s game.
Here’s how to ensure your favorite secures victory: Cast your ballot here or below by 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26.
And then, mark your calendar: We’ll announce the winner June 27 and celebrate the winning shop with a pop-up party at their location — and you’re invited to join in on the fun.
