In a fierce championship round drawing more than 10,000 votes, there’s a new frozen treat champion in town: Al’s Cone Zone in Jefferson Hills.

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream put up a good fight, but Al’s earned 77 percent of the vote total thanks to its ardent fans.

In round after round of the Ultimate Pittsburgh Frozen Treat bracket, presented by The Philadelphia Contributionship, Al’s dominated. Its fanbase propelled the shop to victory over beloved shops like Twisters Ice Cream, Glen’s Homemade Custard, Page Dairy Mart and Sarris Candies Ice Cream Parlour.

Located along Route 885, Al’s turquoise-hued scoop shop is a beacon for those with a sweet tooth and describes itself on Facebook as: “… a small family owned business located in Jefferson Hills, PA. 2018 marks 17 short years for all of us at Al’s Cone Zone.”

Reviewers on TripAdvisor call Al’s “a summer must” and “best ice cream around.” Others laud the shop’s reasonable pricing. Another commenter advises bringing an appetite: “Their small is a medium everywhere else and your eyes will pop out when you see their large.”

Yes, the reviewer says: Your eyes will pop out.

We’re going to put that to the test tonight as we celebrate Al’s victory with a pop-up celebration — and you’re welcome to join us. The festivities run from 5 to 6:30 tonight at Al’s location, where we’ll present the crew at the Cone Zone with their award. It’s also a chance for voters to meet The Incline’s staff and to buy a sweet treat to taste. RSVP for free today.
