Celebrate the CREATE! Festival

Free(!) admission includes access to a full-day of "art, tech, workshops, talks, performances, awards, parties and opportunities to experience the newest trends in creativity and innovation," according to CREATE! Head to the innovation salon from noon to 5 p.m., an ideafest from 1 to 5 p.m., and a creative industry party ($50) at 6 to 9 p.m.

An evening of jazz and dance

"ABBEY: In the Red" is a night of jazz and dance that celebrates musician and civil rights figure Abbey Lincoln. Pittsburgh's Anqwenique Wingfield provides vocals with dance by the STAYCEE PEARL dance project. The show closes Saturday.

Poetry Unplugged to mark MLK Jr.’s birthday

Poets and lyricists from across the country — including Prentice Powell, Nate James, the Brooklyn 2016 Slam Team, W. Ellington Felton, Gabriela Garcia Medina and DJ Nate the Phat Barber — will mark Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday with an evening of poetry and music. The after-party begins at 10 p.m.
