Experience a ‘brawl in the fall’

Don't wrestle with this decision. Seriously. The "Brawl in the Fall" event — a live pro-wrestling rumble in the jungle (of Lawrenceville) — is a true no-brainer. But if you're not entirely convinced, here's the kicker: It will also be held outside, "under the stars." So get your armbands ready and prepare to howl at the moon.

Try out modular synthesizers and drum machines

If you've ever dreamed of being a DJ or producer, now's your chance. Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers will offer a chance for hands-on experience with modular synthesizers, drum machines and effects pedals. Plus, you can watch demos, ask questions and see live performances.

Start the morning with BRAVE (breakfast + rave)

The morning begins with a yoga class set to electronic music, then transitions into a dance rave, then concludes with an all-you-can-eat brunch. Participants are welcome to contribute "something sacred" for the community altar and to bring props or costumes for dancing.

Have you ever wanted to be the worst version of yourself in public and potentially get rewarded for it? Poetry event Nasty Slam is for you. Sign up to deliver a three-minute poem (no hate speech, duh), or just pay to watch poets go head-to-terrible-head. Winner takes home half of the door cash. Sign-up begins at 8:30 p.m.

Veteran bartender Sean Enright and journalist Cody McDevitt are hosting their first party to launch their book "Pittsburgh Drinks: A History of Cocktails, Nightlife & Bartending Tradition." And guess what? There will be booze, plus readings and music by bartender-fronted bands. $5 suggested donation.

Spirit's New Year's Eve bash features three hours of free pizza and a midnight toast. A $35 VIP ticket buys you time with a Frank Sinatra impersonator, access to a dinner buffet and free cocktails and bubbly. General admission tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
